INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Aerosoft Fitness Log. This IBM-compatible software enables
health conscious companies, schools, hospitals, fitness clubs and families at
home to regularly monitor exercise activity.
You easily maneuver throughout this program by just hitting the Enter key.
This moves you forward within screens and gets you out of screens. To
immediately get out of a screen hit the Esc key.
The Aerosoft Fitness Log:
* Calculates aerobic points for 34 types of exercise and calories burned for
49 types of exercise.
* Records all exercises featured in the Presidential Sports Award program
and directs you in mailing for your Presidential Sports Award.
* Lets you view exercise history at your terminal.
* Compares on a monthly basis current year aerobic point totals and
cardiovascular fitness levels with the previous year.
* Prints these reports
- Detail Aerobic History
- Monthly Summary Aerobic History
- Rankings for Aerobic Points and Each of 49 Exercises
- Cardiovascular Fitness Levels
- Presidential Sports Awards
- User IDs
* Prints mailing labels.
* Tracks up to 999 users per log.
* Enables you to read diskettes from other Aerosoft Fitness Logs building
monthly data for your entire organization.
* Optionally requires passwords.
The aerobic point system was pioneered by Dr. Ken Cooper, M.D., M.P.H., who
was originally assigned to develop the conditioning program for U.S.A.F.
astronauts. Cooper's research established positive correlations between
aerobic exercise and mental acuity while duly noting personal energy gain among
his trainees.
Recent research done by Blue Cross and Blue Shield noted on average
employers could expect to recoup $2.41 on every $1 they spent on wellness.
Decreases in absenteeism, lower healthcare costs, and increased worker
productivity are associated with organizations where members practice aerobic
fitness.
How to create a voluntary fitness program for the office:
* Elect men and women to serve as fitness coordinators.
* These person(s) will be in charge of administering passwords, printing
monthly reports, running year end processing and instructing participants
in how to use the log.
* Pages 35-36, are aerobic data entry sheets which can be copied, stapled and
furnished to the user's family.
* If personal computer accessibility is limited, elect person(s) to enter the
data gathered from the entry sheets.
* Print monthly the detail and summary aerobic history reports for the
participants.
* Award users of the log certificates of achievement, exercise gear, fitness
equipment, tickets to sporting events and health related seminars,
recognizing their efforts towards realizing healthier lifestyles.
* Organize a health and fitness library sharing literature on exercise, coping
with stress, nutrition, cancer prevention, smoking cessation, and other
wellness topics.
WE RECOMMEND EVERYONE GET A ROUTINE PHYSICAL EXAMINATION BEFORE BEGINNING AN
EXERCISE PROGRAM.

GETTING STARTED
To install the Aerosoft Fitness Log copy the contents of the original disk
to another floppy disk or to a directory on your hard disk. Consult your DOS
manual on how to copy files.
Store the original disk in a safe place. You are now ready to add users to
the Log. Enter 'aerobic' to bring up the Fitness Log sign-on screen. Then hit
any key to go to the Main Menu.

MAIN MENU
You arrive at the Main Menu once you pass the Fitness Log sign-on screen or
return from the Maintenance Menu. The options listed below receive detailed
treatment in the ensuing pages of this manual.
In option 1 you log in your daily aerobic activity. Option 2 allows you to
display on the screen your current year aerobic history. Option 3 allows you
to print aerobic history.
Option 4 takes you to an aerobic code list where 49 codes display on 3
consecutive screens. Additionally it displays the entry fields you will use
when logging in exercises in option 1.
Option 5 takes you to the Maintenance Menu where you can choose to:
Add/Change/Delete Users; Require Passwords; Print User IDs; Run Year End
Processing; and View Product Bulletins.

LOG IN EXERCISES
Logging in exercises enables you to input aerobic data creating records to
be stored for an entire year. If you access the system using your personal
password, your user ID, name, sex, weight, and age display. The cursor starts
at the field requesting the date.
Otherwise enter your user ID. Similarly, your data displays and you go to
the date field.

LOG IN EXERCISES
When entering the date you must submit it in MMDDYY format (e.g. 011589).
The date will display with slashes between the month/day and the day/year. If
you are uncertain of an aerobic code for the exercise you wish to log in just
hit 'Enter' at the field requesting aerobic code and the screen displays a
list of all codes.

LOG IN EXERCISES
Once an exercise code (1..49) is entered the exercise displays to the right.
Now enter the time in (integer.decimal) format. 38 minutes and 30 seconds should
be entered. 38.5.
To finish entering data for walking/jogging/running input the distance in
miles, then the aerobic points earned and calories burned display.
The 'OK (Y) ?' prompt appears at the bottom with 'Y' as the default. If you
are satisfied with the values you have input just hit 'Enter' and a history
record will be written. Additionally, the aerobic points and calories burned
for the month you indicated in the date field will update your master record.
If you made a mistake inputting data don't hit 'Enter', hit 'N' and the
screen will clear the data enabling you to start over at the top.
All of the various entry fields which appear below the aerobic code field
take (integer.decimal) formatted entries. For exercise on a treadmill (aerobic
code 28), an elevation factor of 5-1/2 percent is to be entered 5.5.
The mph, steps/minute, total steps, number of holes, arrows/rounds/targets,
and games/sets/matches fields round off the decimal fractions you enter. For
steps/minute count only when your left foot hits the floor.

VIEW AEROBIC HISTORY
Viewing aerobic history enables you to display all the detail aerobic
records you have created during the year. If you access the system using your
personal password, your user ID, name, sex, weight, and age display. The
cursor starts at the field requesting monthly summary.
Otherwise enter your user ID. Similarly, your data displays and you go to
the monthly summary field.
Entering '1' for monthly summary displays January totals for all 49 aerobic
codes. Your fitness level, aerobic points, and calories burned for the month
appear at the bottom. You hit any key to advance through the three totals
screens (figures 8.0, 8.1 and 9.0).
After viewing the monthly totals screens the cursor remains in the monthly
summary field until you just hit 'Enter' without inputting a value. If you have
17 or more records it jumps to the scroll field. Otherwise the cursor will jump
to the delete record number field.

PRINT AEROBIC HISTORY
Printing detail aerobic history allows you to list aerobic records you have
created during the year. Printing summary aerobic history produces exercise
totals for the month you choose and displays a two-year monthly comparison of
your cardiovascular fitness levels.
If you access the system using your personal password the user ID
automatically fills in.

ADD/CHANGE/DELETE USERS
The original program diskette contains a sample user whose information is to
be typed over when you add the first ID. Then as you continue to add users to
the system assign them the number in parenthesis to the right on the user ID
line. As users are deleted off the system over time their old IDs can be
reassigned to new users (see page 30 on printing user IDs to indicate which IDs
can be reused).
The maximum number for a user ID is 999. The personal password field can
hold you social security number. The name field holds up to 20 characters. The
3 address lines each hold up to 25 characters.
Enter 'M' or 'F' for sex. For the weight and age fields enter whole
numbers. To change data simply keep hitting 'Enter' to step to the field you
want to modify and begin entering your changes.
When you are satisfied with the displayed values enter 'Y' at the 'OK (Y) OR
(D) TO DELETE ?' prompt and your master record will be updated. If you are just
browsing the data or if you made a mistake inputting data, don't enter 'Y', just
hit 'Enter' and start over.
To delete a user enter 'D' at the 'OK (Y) OR (D) TO DELETE ?' prompt and
enter 'D' again to confirm you want to remove the record. Both your master
record and your history file will be deleted.
In the lower right your tested cardiovascular fitness level displays based
on the data you entered using the Exercise Testing Utility (exertest). Your
monthly fitness levels will increase as your aerobic points pile up during the
current month. The previous year aerobic points and previous year fitness level
columns only update when you run Year End Processing.

APPENDIX B: Backing Up Data
You need to backup your data periodically as users access the system and log in
their exercises. The AeroSoft Fitness Log contains these data files:
aeropw.dat => System Master Password File.
aeromast.dat => User Master File containing user IDs with their
associated personal password, name, address, sex,
weight and age.
histxxx.dat => User History Files where xxx is the user ID (001..999).
One file for each user containing their detail aerobic
exercise history.
To backup your data you need these copy commands:
copy s:aeropw.dat d:
copy s:aeromast.dat d:
copy s:hist*.dat d:
Where 's' is the source drive and 'd' is the destination drive.
